The Caddis float tube is a classic model that really got the ball rolling and inspired new designs for portable fishing boats. The original round Caddis was our first boat and it has a ton of miles without a sign of wear to the original inner tube.
Caddis has several additional designs as well as fins, fly boxes and additional accessories. Although the Caddis boats are not the top models in the current market, they have a great price point and are very functional. Scroll down to read more about the different models.
The High Sierra is the Caddis float tube model we originally purchased and still own. It is very simple with an inner tube that is covered with a sleeve that has two arm pockets and an inflatable back rest.
It also has a stripping basket and several d-rings for lashing nets and such. It has Velcro straps that are handy for securely holding your rod.
The Proline model is very similar but the back rest sits higher and the stripping apron has a measuring tool. These boats handle very well and are pretty easy to fin. They do sit down low in the water but they get the job done, last for a long time and are fairly comfortable.
The Navigator Boats come in a II, II Pro, IV and VI models. The boats resemble small pontoons and they are very easy to control with your fins. All of the models have storage pockets, back rests and Velcro rod holding straps. The sizes vary slightly but overall and there are different features available for each model. Overall, the models are really pretty similar and they are all great stillwater boats.
Caddis manufactures three different U boats. The Nevada and Nevada Gold are among our favorites and we have met a few other fans. The boats are just as stable as the Navigator series.
They are fine on an average day and do well in a wind storm but with heavy waves and you might be in trouble. The third boat is the Pro 2000 and it is much more stable. The design is similar to the Outcast U boats.
It has a comfortable foam seat, storage pockets on the sides and a stripping basket with a measuring system. The boat handles very well and we recommend it over the other U boats and the round boats. The Navigator series is competitive and is just as effective.
The round boats opened up a whole new world to us on stillwaters and the models to follow are fantastic. Caddis is an excellent company that has kept their designs simple and effective over the years. We really enjoy their products and you probably will too. There are some other great options to consider but these float tubes should be on your list while shopping for a portable boat.
